It almost seems like the more time goes by the more I miss you. My life is in shambles and I have no one to blame but myself. I know if you were here you would tell me what i have to do to stop the self destruction process that is starting. I want to have our family back the way they were before all this happened. It's been almost 11 years exactly. It's not fair that your gone we all still needed you..

I miss you. Things are crazy and all I want to go is talk to you. I know you would know what yo tell me. Things are so hard but I know I shouldn't complain since im home. Its hard being here. Seeing all the places you and I use to go and the plans we had right before you died. I know im not alone but it feels like it pal the time now. Just when things start to get better they start to slide back. I keep telling myself to stay focused on what I need to do but its so hard sometimes. I love you and wish you were here.

Going through a pretty rough patch right now. Every time I get down I think about how strong you were no matter what was happening in your life and that inspires me to buck up and keep trying. I'm not sure where I would be right now if you weren't had not been such a big part of my life. I miss you and love you very much.

There is so much pain and sadness now . . . Why can't I be strong anymore? Why, despite all I am trying to do, am I so unhappy still? I want to be happy again. I want to willingly get out of bed again because I am excited for the day. . . I wish I could get myself to be me again. . . I just don't know what to do.

The other day I was talking with a boy who asked what had happened to you. I explained to him you had cancer. His immediate response was 'Oh, than she lost the fight?' I gave him a simple no and corrected him, 'No, she had to give up.' He looked at me strangely, confused by my words, 'Why would she give up? Didn't she love you?' 'Of course she did,' I defended, 'Why do you think it took her 8 years to say goodbye?' Confused even more he asked again, 'Then why would she stop fighting?' I smiled at him, 'Giving up means she was strong enough to let go.' Uncertainty consumed his face, until finally I elaborated, finally making him see though your eyes: 'What sounds easier: being with you kids everyday or being able to see them, but they don't see you?'

Lesli was an amazing person. I have been very fortunate to be able to call her my sister (in-law). She was the first person to welcome me into the family and was the one I grew to rely on for advice and an understanding voice on the other line. She always had the ability to make you feel better and to provide just the right words to make things feel settled even when there was no solution in sight. She was truly a gift to this family and someone I will never forget. I am very thankful and lucky to have called Lesli my family and my friend. May she find peace in her new adventure and guide us all until we meet again. I miss you Les.

Lesli was my Boss at Hill AFB for the last year and a half. I was so absolutely impressed with her intelligence and professionalism, and learned so much from her in the short amount of time I knew her. I am grateful for having known her, worked for her, and learned from her. She will leave a void that will be impossible to fill. May God welcome her and bless her family.

Dearest Betty, Lyle, Karen and family: I am so sorry for your loss. I know how proud you were of her Betty because of our many chats about her amazing capacity to learn and grow. I know you and Lyle and all the family have been so connected and if only all families could look at your efforts of sharing family responsibilities and taking care of each other, the world would be a much better place. I attribute the achievements of your children to you Betty whose work ethic and care of family has been tremendous. I grieve for you all because having known you all so well and your loyalty through you Betty and Lyle and Karen. I will always love you for what you have been for Seth who has only me for family but luckily enough has shared your family and been treated as one of the family for so many years. I always think of you as grace under pressure and family foremost in your hearts. Bless you all at this time. I know Lesli is okay now and you are suffering so bless you all. Your loving and grieving friend Marcia

I want to tell you all i'm very sorry for your loss. Lesli was an amazing woman. Even though I only knew her for a few short years she was and always will be a hero of mine. Lesli made a larger impact on my life than I think she realizes. She made me feel like family when mine wasn't around. Allowing me to celebrate birthdays and holidays with her family like I was part of it. She used to sit and talk to me every night when she would drop me off at my apartment and inspired me to keep my life on the right track and do more with my life. I was always very amazed how she was able to support 3 children, get a masters degree, and obtain the job she had. Lesli always got everything she wanted, ha I remember shopping for christmas and her birthday thinking what do I get for a woman who has everything. I loved her dearly, I wasn't as close to her as I would have liked to have been but she was an huge influence in my life, and I looked up to her as a mother. She never judged me for my mistakes or for my standard of living. One of the things I admire most about her was how happy she always was, even through her cancer struggle her sense of humor never failed. She was a very loving lady, yet strong at the same time. She will be missed, and never forgotten. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.

She's one of those few people that just inspire. I look up to her. I was so so sorry to hear about this and just want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I wish I could take away the hurt. I'm a better person for knowing her. Haley, I hope you like Jr. High- I'm sure you're doing great!- you were always so fun to be around and so so smart. You are absolutely fabulous just like your mom. Your future is so bright. I'm so grateful I was able to cross paths with you and your mom and the rest of your family that I had the privilage to meet. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Know you're in my thoughts and prayers. Love ya Haley!

I've been trying for a couple days now to accurately describe how I've felt about Lesli's death. I know she was so much to so many people. A mother, a daughter, a sister and a friend. I never really got to know her, not the every day person that she was anyway. I always looked forward to seeing her at the next family get-together, although we never spoke much. I was very surprised on my wedding day when she was there to share the joy. I feel so blessed to have that memory of her. The sadness I have is not for her, who I feel is now at peace, but for the people she left behind. I know that the absence of her in their lives is tough, but God will be there with them to guide them through. I will miss her.

Courageously you fought the fight, but you never lost the battle,
Because you're a winner, so you'll be with God, you'll wear His mantle.
He lifted you up when you felt down; for He has promised you a golden crown.
You always pasted an a special smile, you never were one to frown.
You just would not give up, you kept things hidden, so noone would know,
Just how much pain you were in, "I'm just fine," you'd say, never leting it show.
We can only guess at all the suffering that you went through.
You were like the 'energizer bunny', you just kept going, 'cause that's you.
Now the time has finally come, for you to take that long awaited rest.
God has sent His angels to bring you home, for you've passed the test.
We who remain on earth will miss you, although we know we'll see you again.
You are now free from pain, you left that behind, here on earth it will remain.
Where you are skies are always blue, and we know you're safe in the arms of God.
And here on earth, only your earthly remains lie deep beneath the sod.
In realms above others awaited your coming, to greet you, to show you what's in store.
A reunion with loved ones, who'vegone before, a brother, a sister, grandparents and more.
Please know, that we'll honor your memory, remember who you were and what you did.
We may cry for our loss of you here, while on the other side, you are welcome bid.
You'll be remembered as a special sister, daughter, a niece, co-worker or a friend.
Yet by others, as a special aunt, a mother and grandmother, your life was a legacy to the end.
Lovingly, Aunt JoAnn

I watched you grow from a child,as you and Pam, Karen and Patty played together while growing up. I will always remember the time our two families went to Moore, Idaho. We went up to put Grandma Hardy's headstone on her grave. When your family and Grandpa Hardy returned home, You stayed on with us, because we were spending extra time there on our vacation. You and Pam were teens and the local boys flocked to our door. You both had great fun at the swiming hole. One of the boys evan had a pet skunk. Those were the carefree days of summer, back in 1980. But when we dropped you off at home in Clinton, your Mom, Betty, had just recieved the call that Grandpa Hardy had passed away. Therefore those carefree days of summer came to and end. Somehow, now I feel that same loss. For you are gone and with it my summer days are over. Please give Uncle Loyde a big hug and kiss from me, and know how much you'll be missed. Lovingly, Aunt JoAnn

Lesli was truly an inspiration in my life. I was blessed to know her for the short time that I did. If I can live the rest of my life with even half of her strength, half of her courage, half of her kindness, warmth and loving, I will consider it an accomplishment. She had an unquenchable spirit and zest for life. My thoughts and heart are with her family and loved ones in their time of sorrow.

It is with much sadness that I heard of the passing of Lesli. My interaction with her is only from working with her at Hill AFB. She always exhibited a can do attitude and even at the roughest of her moments she always had a pleasant attitude and she treated others only with the utmost respect and care. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lesli's family in this great time of sadness and sorrow. Lesli will be sorely missed by all.

I unfortunately only knew Lesli from work at Hill AFB. We worked together often on foreign munitions issues, and she always provided me with expert insight and guidance, even when her time spent with me knowingly put her behind in her other duties. I appreciated that very much. As I read over the other thoughts and condolences posted on this site, it is apparent that she was as equally dedicated and talented in her private life as she was while serving her country as a civil servant of the USAF. Lesli's skills and dedication will be missed greatly. Our sympathies are with you in your loss.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Scott and Mollie Heisterkamp

Lesli is one of my closest friends. She had a heart of gold and was the most forgiving person I have ever known. My life has been so much better having her a part of it. I cherished her friendship and she taught me so much. She always made me laugh and forced me constantly to get out of my comfort zone. She was the most kind hearted person, she always gave everything she had to anyone in need. She trusted everyone and saw the good in all. I loved her very much, and will miss her terribly. She was such a good friend to me, truly a God Send. I have so many great memories I could share, we had so many good times. I feel empty with her gone, but I know she is with God now and no longer in pain. I Love You Boop! Kristi

Lesli was my landlord during my tenure in Sugarhouse, for just over a year (2006 sat in the middle of it.) I have known her to be nothing but kind, generous, and straightforward in her thoughts and actions. I am very sure that she was a fighter when it came to her condition, and she never let it get in the way of anything she wanted to do. That said, she always carried herself with humor, generosity, and was always friendly in her attitude. Though I have long since moved away from Utah entirely, I like to think that Lesli personified the best of the Valley. It is my hope that her spirit of friendship only increase and instill itself into others she has seen and known, in spite of her absence from this plane of existence. May Almighty God take her into His Kingdom with all haste, and with joy and welcome at her arrival. May her family, though left behind, take everything that she has taught them, and utilize it well - remembering her always with a smile.

Lesli is a very good friend of mine, one who was always there for me! We meet at work years ago when she first started on the base and we just connected instantly! Her sense of humor and dry wit bonded us together in a way that lasted and we could always find laughter when we got together! Lesli spoke to me of her cancer, her children, her family and all the barbecues and work and her grandbaby! Recently Lesli learned how to text message (lessons from her daughter) so we could communicate when I wasn't able to use the phone. A few months ago Lesli was at my door the day I told her about my cancer and was always there for me! She fought for so long and so hard and she is just amazing! Her outlook on life and on cancer, all of it was inspiring and she helped me in more ways than words will ever explain. She loved all of you guys and her way was to protect you from the cancer...Your mom, daughter, sister and my friend was an amazing woman and if there is anything I can do for any of you please don't hesitate to let me know! Thank you so much Lyle for building this website and providing the pictures and part of Lesli's life! I will always always remember her laugh, smile and keen sense of humor..."Hey Woman" was how Lesli said hi and I will forever treasure our friendship and memories!
